Circle Time –
TES This book provides more practical ideas for the use of circle time at the foundation stage to tackle the vexed issues of child protection and substance abuse. A useful section identifies assessment opportunities. Early years teachers will find an easy way into exploring difficult issues with children through a rich array of games, puppet activities and relaxation techniques. For those who want to develop awareness of these issues with young children, this is a slim but useful resource. NURSERY WORLD This book outlines a practical course in helping children to feel emotionally and physically safe, based on the PSE curriculum in the Foundation Stage. It comprises two units, one helping the child to keep himself safe in a personal context (such as OK and not OK touches) and the other to protect himself from harmful substances. The lessons are packed with games, puppet activities and other strategies for early years practitioners to involve children in a fun and interesting way. Each lesson is clearly set out with everything needed to complete a session. As the book is spiral bound, photocopying of the sheets is easy and also kind to the book. This would be a useful and practical resource for this part of the curriculum.
